Copart without a dealer license: broker experiences

Trade Notes ·

For everyone DMing me: no, you usually can't just bid on everything at Copart as a private buyer. Registration tiers and state rules wall off most salvage titles, so unlicensed buyers go through a registered broker. My experience across three brokered purchases: the broker fee ($250–$400 flat or a percentage) was the most predictable line in the whole deal. The platform itself is established and does what it says — the surprises were all in the vehicle condition and my own fee math, never in whether Copart released the car.

Same experience, different broker. One tip: brokers vary hugely on post-sale help. Ask up front whether title forwarding and yard-release coordination are included or extra.
